Obtaining low interest rate credit
cards can be simply a matter of lowering the rate on your
existing account, or applying for a different type of account from
the financial institution that currently gives and you credit card
service. However, in some cases this may not work and you'll need to
apply for a different credit card from a different company.
Contact
your current credit card company and ask to get a lower interest
rate. This may be a viable option, especially if you've had a credit
card for some time. Your credit history may have improved, thus
making you eligible for lower rate credit cards. If your existing
credit card company does not offer you a low
interest rate cards then look for low
interest rate credit cards online.
Look for financial
institutions that offer credit cards online. This way you can shop
for lower interest rate cards. Many financial institutions offer
applications online. However, if you do not feel comfortable with
this, you can also opt to print the application out and mail it into
the financial institution. The benefit in filling out an online
application is that you can get a response within a few minutes.
Whereas, an application you mail in may take several days to get a
response to.
Only apply to those companies you feel confident
in getting a positive response from. Avoid filling out applications
to companies that require an excellent credit history if your credit
history is damaged, as you will only be denied and your credit
history will be damaged even further. Instead, apply to companies
that offer credit cards to people who have had some credit issues. If
your credit history is less than in optimal conditions, expect to pay
higher interest rate than someone with an excellent credit score.
Even then, you can find credit cards with lower interest rates by
reading the "Terms of Service" agreement. In this document
you will find the interest rate charged and any other fee that can
apply to the credit card.
Just as in everything else, finding
that perfect credit card is a matter of shopping around, comparing
prices and choosing the right card from a reliable credit card
company. To get even better interest rates you must work at keeping
and improving your overall credit score, and reviewing it
periodically. Then every so often contact your credit card company to
review your interest rate and ask for a lower interest rate card.
