Over the years many people have asked to co-facilitate with me, and I know instantly whether I want to work with them, but occasionally I find it difficult to say why. So I made a list of all the things I look for in a co-facilitator. Some basic skills or ways of being are so important that they’re non-negotiable. No one has the whole package of traits, but for the sake of learning, I want to work with facilitators who bring skills to the table that I want to develop, such as:

Holding multiple agendas simultaneously

Designing activities on the fly based on what the group needs now

Synthesizing group desires

Bringing out my humor and creativity

Designing metrics for evaluating and improving the quality of the program
